Why did you want to make a forum?

When you started your forums, what was the main reason for doing it? Was it to eventually make money from it? Or was it to have fun and create a place for discussion? I think for me it was a mix of both. I obviously want to make money, but I also wouldn't mind creating forums where users can be free to chat how they like. I also liked the idea of having a place I can call my own, and a place where I can help myself become a bit more social on top of it.

The first forum I created was for the writers on my multi author blog to interact. When I created ny first stand al;ong forum (a forum that was not a part of any website), my first purpose was to make money from the community just like I was doing with my blogs.
