Mature Topics in Forums

I have seen mature topics on many forums, some of the forums keep the mature topic hidden from a normal user and some forums keep the topics open for discussion. I have never used mature topics on my forums and I will never do that. What do you think? Do you think is is good to have a section where users can discuss mature topics?

Depends on the forum. A lot of the forums I went to back in the day were for adults, so they often had adult discussions. Nothing pornographic, but they freely swore, talked disturbing stuff and so on. But it wasn't a widely popular forum. Some of my forums allow adult discussions, but nothing pornographic, because I don't want to see my sites face any trouble. Plus I think adSense forbids adult content like that.

Not all mature content is pornographic content, for instance you can discuss on sexual health or reproductive health, which does not fall under porn but it is certainly mature content and if you are monetizing your site, these content can deter your advertisers.

Mature content isn't good for minors. Well, not all computers filter out that stuff so minors could run into it by accident. Anyway, based on current laws, you wouldn't get sued for anything, though.

This can really be annoying, especially for new members and it can discourage them from being active members of the forum. Unless it is the niche, it’s not advisable.

I don't know if it will be a good thing to have this on the forums, as there is no kind of age filter on the forums or there usually isn't, anyone can access them, but the same thing happens on social media sometimes, so I think you can't do much about this I'm afraid.

Unless the forum is created for mature discussion, I do not think it is appropriate to have mature content, it can not only deter users but also put you into legal battle if you end up having minors sign up in your forum.

Yes, besides that this could bring people to the site who have nothing to do with the actual content of your forum, and position you poorly in search engines, at least I think so.

Because they need to set geo targetting on users so only users that have paid addon to have access to this section and not everyone having 18 years old like to see this.

Unless your forum is specifically dedicated to mature discussion I do not see a need for having mature category on your forum. You can of course make it private but I do not see why you need to have a private forum. Why not just avoid it.
