Forum Self-Hosting Questions: Host? Server Type?

1. Which web host are you using to host your forum or forum software? How has your experience been with that host?
2. Do forums need a dedicated server or VPS for hosting? Do you use a dedicated server or VPS to host your forum?
3. What should forum owners consider when deciding whether to switch from shared hosting to dedicated or VPS? What community size or amount of traffic would benefit from the switch?

I'm just trying to wrap my head around what is needed to host a forum software setup, as opposed to the small Wordpress and HTML/CSS sites I have previously hosted. Thanks in advance.

I am using Namecheap. Namecheap is good but you get free SSL only for the first year, and they don't support Let's Encrypt. I am using shared hosting and I have never faced any issues related to hosting. I might move to dedicated servers or VPS when my forum grows big but until then shared hosting is fine for me
