Have hackers ever gotten access to private info?

Have you ever been hacked and some of your private and personal content got stolen and maybe even released? I thankfully don't have to worry about that, as I don't really keep private stuff on my PC. With that being said, if you ever got hacked and lost private stuff, what happened? Did you recover your content? Did you stop them from posting your content? Did the people who hacked get caught and arrested for their crime?

Thankfully, I know how to prevent it and it has never happened. It has happened to my father though and boy was that a mess. They got everything from his social security number to his credit cards and password. He was a victim of identity theft. Couple this with the debt he had already gotten in over his head with, he ended up having to walk away from the house I grew up in. This was in 2010.
