If you're the boss of a business, do you ever step out of work without announcing it to anyone? Or do you let your employees know you're leaving for a bit? I have always dreamed of being a boss who can come and go as he pleases. But I would never be able to not let my employees know, as if I'm out, I want them to at least know where they can reach me. Right?

Anyway, how often do you step out of work as the boss?

I have experience running three different businesses and I never went away too long without telling anyone. When I went away, it was always for less than a week and I always had someone to take my place in my absence.

If I'm going away in my business, I will inform everyone who needs to know about my absence. They all need to updated so they will know how to suit in and work in my absence. I've never had to leave my business for more than 2 days and I was back in no time.

Well, in my business of poultry and fish farming, it's almost impossible for me to step out of the business for a long time probably in going for a long vacation. Even though I trust my workers not to mess up the business but I will never be relaxed when I've been away for too long. I can only go away for maximum 1 week and I will be back.

This might be quite important because not informing your employees will make it sound as if you are no longer interested in business. As a result of that, your employees will also lose interest and there will come a time when they will also eventually quit as well.

It's like how forums are affected whenever the owner goes away without leaving at least with his staff members the reason for his going away and how long he's going to be away. The same thing will happen to any business when the owner goes away for too long unannounced.

I think that this is also one of the main reasons why the presence of the owner is very important. A manager can take many important decisions, however, they cannot take extremely important decisions when it comes to certain matters such as making a payment, signing a contract, etc.

If you want to open a business and leave it in the care of other people, it's a different thing because you will make sure they have everything they needed to operate the business without your presence. If you're supposed to be part of operating the business, you can up and disappear. It will tell on the business in a very negative way.

You cannot have a business where you have workers doing a lot of job for you and you are going to just disappear without giving them updates on what is going on and how they are supposed to keep everything working effectively before you return. In a station like this, the business is always going to suffer drastically.

I live a simple life that involves not acting bossy when I am at the workplace. I just want works to happen and for people to be doing the roles that they are expected of at the workplace. Why would I just act like a boss when the staff are the people that ensure that everything work in a particular way?

Being able to have trust is the main basic that's going to make it easier for you to leave your business in charge of others and go out for a long time. This is something that I don't have and it's why I don't think I'm ever going to find it easy to leave my business in another person's care for too long.

I think that it is quite important to make an announcement in case if you are stepping down as a boss of a company. This is quite important thing because your employees need to know about it. They should have knowledge about who is their current boss.

Well, the OP wasn't really talking about stepping down as a boss of a company but taking some time off. It may for health reasons or just to rest in a vacation. So, before doing that, you are expected to put a plan in place to keep everything functional until you come back. When there's a need for a boss to resign or step down, there's a formal due process to be followed for it.

I think that whether you are stepping down as a boss or if you are going on a vacation, my suggestions work in both the cases. Whether you are leaving permanently or temporarily, you have to inform your employees and senior staff as well.

If you're the type of person who's fond of acting bossy around your staffs, they will withdrawal from being close to you. This kind of behaviour and attitude will make your staffs to start hiding things from you. This may lead to something which is likely to cause a serious problem.

Well, depending on the size of your business or company, there is a situation where some of your employees doesn't need to know everything about the boss's movement. His movements information will be make available to those that should know and not all. Such information will be on the need to know basis.

I agree with you. There are times that the boss should limit how much information that he or she gives to everyone that is working at the firm in terms of how much they move out or in at the moment. Ensure that you focus on keeping some secret of yourself away from everyone.

The level of information that you make available to your entire employee is what is going to give them the power to do things in the business operation. When it's an information that is going to be of a detriment to your business when they don't use it in the right way, it is something that is going to be regrettable for you to do.

If your business is what can't be put off until you're back and you have people working for you, informing them to know why you'd be going off is necessary. They will know how to fill in the space your absence is going to create to make sure everything went well until you'd be back.

The reason why employees are working with you is so that they can be able to contribute to the success of your business under your guidance. When you are making it very difficult for them to work with you, it is always going to impact negatively on how they are carrying out their job which is not going to be of a good result towards your business.
