How do you balance your content with monetization?

For content creators and bloggers, how do you determine the right balance between producing valuable content and implementing monetization strategies without alienating your audience, and what lessons have you learned in the process?

Even though I try to monetize my websites as soon as they are live, I also avoid monetizing websites with thin content. For a blog, I will publish over a dozen posts before running ads, and for a forum I will be wait until 100 posts before implementing ads.

I balance it by prioritizing quality content a little more than monetization. After all if there is no quality content there will be less traffic and when there is reduction in traffic, monetization seems to be vanity.

I try to make only one ad placement in between post and some at the footer while header ads is to be avoided with all possibility as it might likely draw users away little bit from the content except on index/landing pages.
