Was there ever a time where you had to send a cease and desist for someone stealing your content or doing some other form of copyright? I haven't had to do it myself, but I heard a friend had to as someone was using his photos on their site, making it out as their own. He was able to get them to take them down, but it took months to get an answer from the culprits.

Fortunately, I have not had this kind of experience but I know someone who faced the same challenge as well and it was on Facebook where the ladies picture was used by a particular blogger to promote a content about a lady who was being abused by her husband. She had to contact the blogger and ask the him to take the picture down immediately otherwise she's going to take legal action against them. They took it down immediately.

I have never sent legal cease and desist over copyright issues. However, I have had many copyright violations for my online work and I had to file DMCA to stop the person from stealing copyrighted materials. DMCA does not have any legal grounds, though.

This is actually one of the reason why I consider filing DMCA a complete waste of time because there is nothing that will be achieve from it, rather than having the content taking down.

I believe that the person can still be able to do it all over again if they are still interested in doing it, so what is the essence of filing the case in the beginning?
