Among many business owners and even among my acquaintances, there is an opinion that if you increase your advertising expenses, it automatically means that you will get more customers and earn more. How true is this opinion in your experience?

That is a wrong view of how ads works. It is only when you spend money on getting the right ads that you can say that you are likely to make more sales. There are some paid ads that won't give you the level of sales that you anticipate and that is waste of money at the end of the day.
