Actually in some locations, it will be more better to rent a house than to build that of yourself simply because the rate of tax imposed on houses is very high and costly to maintain.

I prefer making my personal house, I love ethe freedom associated with designing and choosing the materials I want for my housing. Our priorities might differ though, but it's ok.
Anything that would make you ultimately become a home owner is a good move. I don't buy the idea of paying rent for more than 3 years. You would realize that the cumulative cost of renting is more than that of building a house over three years.

The most preferable way is buying a house and paying the money in monthly basis, it's better because within sometime , you will have balanced up and become a landlord .
