Own any property that is considered a historical location/monument?

Does anyone here own any property that may be considered important, a national treasure/location/monument? I see a lot of places in my local town that are protected because they're part of the towns history or an important location in history itself. If you own a property like this, how did you get the rights to it? Are you allowed to do any work on it? Or are you required to not make any changes to the property?

My farm house is almost 50 years old. It is a historical structure as three generations of people have lived here. However, the historical status of my farm house has not been established by any agencies. IN our country, there are no provisions to establish private properties as historical properties unless they are also owned by historical person.
