Has a site never ranked for you?

Was there ever a site you made that didn't rank at all for you? Were you ever able to make it rank? Or was there ever a time you couldn't rank even though you did everything to do so? I've never had such a problem myself, and I don't even know if it's possible, is it?

All sites that you get indexed on Google or other search engines will eventually rank, the only question is at what position/page does it rank. If your site appears on the 100th page of search results, you will never get search traffic but your site did actually rank. When we talk about search engine ranking, we are mainly focused on ranking on top 3 or top 5 pages.
