It will depend on the type of rapport you have with them. If you guys get along with them and understand each other thoroughly to the point that you can trust them, then you can consider employing them. Even then, you still have to draw a line when working, let them know that you are the boss so they won't start behaving overly casual or take the business lightly.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with employing friends and family to work in your company or even become your business partner.

Although it has been said that over familiarity leads to negligence, this can be avoided, when you set the relationship boundaries as well as rules and regulations.

To me I don't see anything wrong in doing so ,provided that there is space for them in the business ,and also they have the will to work towards the growth of the business .
All things being equal , families and friends are the best people one can do a business with.
