Are government monopolies acceptable, but private ones not?

Well it depends on the economic situation or practices of the country in a situation whereby the count practices communism or socialism the benefit of government monopolies is of the citizens but when otherwise then the consumer have not choice than to accept the private.

Government monopolies are good and bad because at the end of the day the government is there to serve the people, however, if the government is filled with corrupt people then there might be problems.

Though it depends, I have seen cases whereby the private sectors have the community in mind more than the government it self. That aside, the duty of the government should be related to the betterment of the country in general, I believe this is why people favour government monopoly than private.

There are many reasons why government monopoly is accepted. The fact is that government always aims at benefitting the citizens rather than the private companies which always aims at making profit at the expense of the citizens.

But normally this should not be the case but in some corrupt country it is possible that some government Monopoly may be accepted while the private one may not be accepted this could be as a result of corruption in some countries.

I get your point but I believe there's nothing wrong with government monopoly. And most times it's not due to corruption, there are sectors that only the government should be allowed to operate

I like government monopolies because the main intention of the business is not profit but more of public service. Unfortunately for some government-owned companies here, they were sold to private entities. There once was a bus company of the government that charges cheaper fare and very convenient with the air conditioning. But we do not have that anymore.

Yes, government monopolies are accepted but private own are not. This is due to the fact that the government are not just in charge of a country but it operations in the economy. If private sector is given monopoly, it will make the government loose it grip of control and authority gradually until rich private sector owners become dictators and absolute power currupt absolutely.

The government monopolies are for the betterment of the citizens. Private sectors can't do that, as bias would certainly set in.

When government makes profits, it invest in infrastructure development, provides services etc. When private companies make profit, they take all the money and spend on luxury.
