Many online businesses fail to succeed because they never set these kinds of goals. That is because their first motive is to make Money, not just money but quick money. When you you start any business be it online or offline your priority should be to solve societal problem.

The rate is probably so high because they give up on it. A lot of people start small businesses online and try to make a buck but later give out on it and basically quit. That can't be helped and happens quite a bit. That's my main opinion as to why the numbers are so high.

Yes, you'll earn first for having customers but the real question is could you maintain that same customer to patronize your product or service? Those customer might come back for the second time to give you a chance but if still couldn't improve your quality of product or service that will be a big loss for you and your business.

Yes I experienced this , we were importing a particular product and we had about 80% of market share, everyone knew us with that product, but now every Tom, Dick and Harry are selling this same product it's hard to even meet out target.
