Why is the price of rice that expensive in Nigeria? The cost of rice in Nigeria is around the price range of $95 - $100 and increasing.

What could be the possible cause

I think rice is becoming very expensive in Nigeria because it is very hot there and the other thing is that there is a shortage of water and our business people are collecting a lot of rice. He is not giving. That is why the quantity there is getting very low which is causing us losses and rice is getting very expensive and most importantly it is your production when If you increase the production of rice, there will still be a shortage of rice and Papa will be able to steal at a very low rate.

APC lead FG, and excuses, at first they said Asia rice was cheaper than Nigerian rice because Asian government financed local rice farmers. After budgeting money and starting CBN intervention and fertilizer subsidy, they changed story again claiming the price differences was because a large cargo of plastic rice had been warehoused in Cotonou and they were flooding our Markets. the new excuse is now the rice millers

That's the major target , for now the country can only the importation volume of rice such the imported ones will only augment the locally produced ones and gradually a parmaanent ban on rice importation can be implemented.

seriously we have really seen things in Nigeria concerning the price of rice
If the borders are close how would less expensive rice be brought into the country and be sold , i guess the government needs to first open the borders and lets import some food items since the local manufacturers can't increase the supply rate ,then making it expensive
