Hello, the rice crops are of very poor quality, therefore the processing plants for rice have more work, this generates more expenses and an increase in the cost of the product
It's really shocking news if the price of rice is so high. I don't know the cause but I ll search about it. This is really disturbing thing

If the borders are close how would less expensive rice be brought into the country and be sold , i guess the government needs to first open the borders and lets import some food items since the local manufacturers can't increase the supply rate ,then making it expensive
First of all , the internal rice production in Nigeria is not really much and yet the ban on foreign rice importation is not helping matters.
This issue is not only in Nigeria but also comon problem of other countries.... But i think it is due to out season demand... When season will arrive its price will be down.

Due to the cost of production of rice in Nigeria and all the ills of Government, that's what made it expensive, and not to forget we get cheap rice from importing from other countries, and now the Government has closed the border and no way to import them in.

It is becoming expensive because of our bad government policy, while will a government close a border of it's own country all in the name of he want to produce it's own rice. That's not a good idea at all because it has make unemployment to rise.

Yea, a believe the border closure, from the southern path of Nigeria, couple with the fact that, there is Zero to little price regulatory body, monitoring and fixing this prices, another reason, is the present high inflation rate.
There's inflation in the economy of Nigeria so all areas will be affected rice inclusive. Moreso, demand for rice is high as well as cost of production.

The major reason why Rice is very expensive in Nigeria is due to the fact that their is restriction on importation of rice from other countries.
