Is it possible to deny people help?

I have never refused to help someone who asks me, and sometimes it's bad for me because I waste time on something that a person could do by himself. Should I start refusing or is it better not to become a bad person and still do what they ask because someday I will also need their help

It depends on the help and what situation you're in. I mean, sometimes you can't afford it and/or it can also be an unwise use of cash. For instance, if someone doesn't have a good cooking apparatus and willingness to cook, then should canned goods be donated to them? I mean, even cans of food are often one dollar a can.
