Building collapse is an phenomenon that occurs occasionally in Nigeria, if It is an accident than it will happen in once in a blue moon will be mostly triggered by a natural disaster but no, It happens on a common basis these days.
It's not uncommon to hear on the news that a building has collapse and killed the occupants in the building as at the time of the building collapse.
This issue has gone from bad to worse, How do we as real Estate Business people prevent this kind of accident that happens so brazenly these day?

This should have been a very simple one, it all boils down the right regulations on building materials and construction.
Most building materials production companies make substandard materials and this leads to collapse buildings.
If they are regulated and inspected the trend will change

When the construction is given a contract, the contractor tries to make sure the materials and equipment used in the process are good and well maintained.

The issue with the houses collapsing, is mainly from the materials which was used to build those houses, when the price for materials goes up, the contractor tries to spend below the budget for the contract by buying used or fake materials to finish the job.

When a contract is been approved, it is kind of hard for the company who gave the contract out to revisit the contract, that is when why the contractor squire equipment and supplies to finish the project.

You are right, building collapse seems to be common. I think this is mostly caused by people cutting corners and going for overly cheap materials when constructing houses. They also refuse to engage the services of trained professional engineers and surveyors to handle the building projects. So to solve this problem, those who want to build should put square pegs in square holes. They should begin to consult professionals and appropriate authorities before embarking on such projects. Accurate and adequate materials should also be used for the building. These will go a long way to preventing such occurences.

One of the major cause of building collapse is the negligence by the constructors during construction. For the most part constructors fail to incorporate designs for extraload. If houses are carefully built and proper maintenance are done on this structures we should be able to deal with the incessant collapse in Nigeria.

To prevent building collapse, environmental impact assessment (EIA) has to be done on the land before laying any foundation. Competent contractors also need to be employed for buildings, this will enable them use the exact measurements of materials for the building from foundation till the end.

How to solve building collapse problem in our country? Some this collapse building occurs occasionally in my country. We need town planning officer to check and supervise all building.

In 1968 there was a strong earthquake in Manila that caused the collapse of Ruby Tower, I think it has 8 stories. So many died but there were 2 survivors found in the rubble after more than a week. The city engineer checked the foundation and found out that the soil is soft. With a high building the foundation should reach at least the rocky portion of the underground that is near the bedrock. It is the job of the engineer to protect the building from earthquake and sinkhole.

Solving the problem of building a collapse building in Nigeria.
Government plays a vital role. government should have control or influence on the action plan and activities of her citizens. Areas for building houses are different from areas meant for farming purposes. Government should give standard and equally monitor compliance. Sometimes quack engineers are responsible for building collapse in Nigeria. Government need to punish defaulters and ensure that there is standard of compliance ranging from the materials used in building a house and quality of cement as well.

building collapse has been. very great problem in Nigeria for a very long time now, and it's a thing that has taken countless number of lives and also destroyed many properties, most times it isn't caused by bad foundations of the building because that is what most people see as the real cause of house collapse but it's cause by using fake product or building materials to build a house.

First and foremost it's for the authorities in Nigeria to make policy that will make construction of any building without getting clearance and following the stated standards prohibited.

To prevent building collapse in NigeriaI think the best thing for people and government to do is to prevent people from building house in any place without government approval because most people will just go out and Build house at any place without considering the topography of the soil thereby making it risky of collapsing, government should arrest people build house indiscriminately in any area of land without government approval I think this is the only way to stop this.

Before we think of a way to solve a problem we should first look at the cause of that problem, every materials used in buildings are supposed to be tested before they will be put into use.The major cause of this collapse has been use of substandard materials.

Sometimes the real estate contractors caused such collapse. They should be held responsible when such building collapse surface. They are the ideal caused of it, you will give them contract with good amount of money to execute a quality project for you. Instead they will buy inferior materials for your building smuggling huge amount of your money into their pocket.

Building collapse in Nigeria is becoming a common occurrence leading to lose of lives.i will narrow down the causes to
1. The engineers : are they qualified or half baked
2. The site...was the soil tested and fit for building i.e not waterlogged
3. Materials : are they for quality or affordability
4. The whole system is faulty if not the regional and urban planning offices should be carried along

Building collapsing in Nigeria is not a new thing and I think this is mostly caused by a person ( either the contractor, headman or the owner of the building) cutting corners and going for overly cheap materials and substandard materials for constructing the houses. They also refuse to engage the services of trained professional engineers and surveyors to handle the building projects. Another reason could be that the contractor or head man cheats the owner by not using the require number of materials, but he reduces them inorder to get the money for the remaining materials that should be bought.

That's quite true....collapse of buildings is now very common in this country and its mainly caused by the unskillfulness of the contractors and labourers.... most times these builders do not put in their best in mixing concrete and laying the foundation of the building well which makes it weak and faulty... other times buildings collapse because fake and low quality materials were used in building
