A lot of people use wordpress for blogging. That's because it is one of the most powerful and versatile platforms. It is one of the most used platform for blogs. However, there are also a lot of other Open-Source Blogging platforms. Even though I have not used a lot of wordpress alternatives for blogs, I am familiar with many open-source blogging platforms besides WordPress. Joomla and Drupal can also be good for blogs, but you need some programming knowledge to use these programs effectively. Ghost, Hugo, Jyklle etc. are some popular options.
