Is it wise to purchase second hand musical instruments? Are they as durable and produces right sounds/notes like the newer ones?

It depends no the condition no the instrument at hand. Secondhand equipment is tried and tested and in most cases pass the test of originality and superior engineering since they are not mass produced at first. But you have to do a thorough check up and testing to get value for money.

But be sure that the equipment is up to par with the sound and that it will last long. There are drum sets that look good until you try it for the ear where you will discover the sound to have some defects. In other words, be sure of the quality of the used equipment before paying. And it is good if the seller would give you a money-back guarantee if a problem is discovered within a month of use.

If you have money, you should always buy new instruments as they are durable. Buying new instruments is also an investment. If you are not buying this year, you will have to pay more next year.
If the purpose of buying instruments is for learning, second hand instruments can be a great money saver. You never know whether you will stick to learning the instrument. If you buy new, and stop playing, you wasted your money.
