you can use an easy to use miner program like nicehash, it shouldn't take more than a few clicks to set up and it detects your cpu/gpu and does all of those stuff automatically, you also mentioned mining monero with a gpu, monero can only be mined with a cpu so yeah, I guess you can mine both, for example, bitcoin and monero at the same time.

I think that the best course of action is to first invest in machinery, and then try and find a software designed for mining that you are comfortable handling because there are a plethora of them available online.

If you have GPU in your computer you might be able to mine crypto currencies. While you might not be able to mine Bitcoin because Bitcoin requires extensive equipment, you will be able to mine coins like XMR.
