Yes, there are many cryptocurrencies that are created with the aim of defrauding investors and simply when they are ready to throw away the scheme they do a rug pull and everyone gets trapped. I generally don't invest in these cryptocurrencies because I don't trust them right now I invest in Bitcoin ethereum and some other of the top 20.
