BlockChain is assumed the next Internet in the near future. Can it be applied to other areas like cryptocurrency?

Blockchain technology is very wide. It is not only based on crypto currency alone. There are other areas that Blockchain technology can be implemented. Like I saw in a news that a developed country has implemented Blockchain technology to there security system
