There is definitely no way to trade against the whales, as they are billionaires who move large amounts of capital and thus change the direction of the currency!
Yes price of cryptocurrency will fall because of whales investors selling their assets in cryptocurrency like Bitcoin. The total of assets of whales investors are in billions of dollars. Just a slight move to buy or sell affects the cryptocurrency market.
I agree with your opinion, according to the movement of these whales, the market will move in that direction. This makes it clear that there is such manipulation and therefore one must be very aware of their movements.

The figure is in bitcoins because if you check the first page of this thread the poster I mentioned the amounts to be equivalent to 4.8 billion dollars as at the time of that report.
