XenForo and possibly other forum software solutions allow someone to make a blog from their software. Who has tried this? What does it look like? Is it just as good as more popular solutions?

Yes there is a thread about plugin about creating a blog inside Xenforo forum:
It is called Xenbros.

Since I have never used premium software, I have no idea about the add-ons available for premium software available for creating a blog. I see blog sections on a lot of forums but blog section is just a category and not a proper blog. I also see some forums using wordpress for blogs, on directory or subdomain.
