Ever have to go through forced layoffs?

Has anyone here as a business owner ever been forced to fire a bunch of employees due to forced layoffs? Maybe the business is dying or not making any money and you have to go back to the drawing board. Sadly it may result in having to let some or most people go. Have you ever had to do mass layoffs for your business? Have you ever been am employee who got stuck in a mass layoffs?

This has never happened to me. maybe because I do not have a lot of experience with working in big companies where layoffs frequently happen. I have always worked for individuals and small businesses and I have never lost a job because of forced layoffs.
