When mining crypto, does the rate ever drop?

When you're mining any form of crypto, does the rate of what you make ever drop down? Like, maybe one minute you're making a good amount per mining sessions, but then the next sessions start to drop. Has this ever happened while you've mined crypto? Can it happen?
 
Mining is related to your computer performance. Computer is a machine and machine cannot give you 100 percent performance. Therefore, I believe mining rewards will fluctuate according to the performance of your mining equipment.
