What are the factors to consider when identifying an altcoin with huge potential?

One of the major thing that I consider before investing in the altcoin is the market capitalisation. The market capitalisation tells us the number of people or investors that are using the coin . It shows the level of trust that people has on that coin.

This only shows that specific number of people that are engaging in the holding processed. Okay what if I may ask , how is this one a guarantee that the cryptocurrency will be successful in the future ? Please share your experience
