Recently BTC got past Facebook social media in market capitalization value. Which has seen it now going above 1$ trillion in its overall marketcap. At the moment BTC is peaked at 8th in the log, when it concerns assets with the highest marketcap and highly in-demand. Gold is occupying the number one spot which is more than 11$ trillion in its overall marketcap ever since it came into limelight.

I don't think bitcoin can overtake gold in terms of price. The reason is that there is continuous demand for gold all year round. The case is quite different with Bitcoin.

Gold has been in existence for many years and bitcoins is still very young, yet at this youngest age it has been able to reach more than 1 trillion market cap which really shows that in the next few years it might be possible for it to pass Gold.
