Will AI be utilized more in video games?

With AI blowing up as of late, either it be AI art, AI chat bots and so on, it made me wonder when video games will start to implement better AI that can actually challenge the player? I think the way AI is going, is going to result in better AI for NPCs in games. Do you think that day will come?
