Why is most states and the federal government of Nigeria finding it hard to pay pensioners

Nigeria is not a poor country. The country is simply a product of a very bad leadership. This is leading to the systemic failure we see in almost all the sectors. Why can't the public office holders take pay cuts in their mammoth salaries they pocket every month and their ridiculous sitting, wardrobe, newspaper, barbing allowances they shamelessly take home monthly. But when it's time to pay these pensioners their peanuts, stories of how poor the country is come up. This is wickedness.

These are two completely different pension systems. The main difference between the old and the new scheme is that while the previous system was defined, the new one is based entirely on the retirement age, annual nature and the level of investment accrued up to that level.

Nigeria has no practical public approach on the consideration and government assistance of more seasoned people. Changing socioeconomics in Nigeria, notwithstanding the breakdown of the family construction and nonattendance of a government managed retirement framework, present special difficulties to the older in Nigeria. This paper examines the current approach lacuna and future issues concerning more established people in Nigeria. It places that the presentation of neoliberal monetary approaches made a vacuum in arrangement detailing and execution in which the more established people are not accommodated inside the social security nets in the neoliberal state. This exploratory, subjective examination depends on meetings and stories of meetings with government authorities. The discoveries of the examination show that, despite fast segment change, one of the significant difficulties confronting Nigeria is creating arrangements and selecting staff fit for comprehension and reacting to the current social needs and complex necessities of an undeniably maturing populace in the country. In light of the discoveries, the examination gives suggestions that may help the public authority to table arrangements that will advance the prosperity of the old in Nigeria.in a nutshell I think ravenousness and absence of dread of God that is the motivation behind why they don't pay or rather pay as at when due.

in Nigeria. Today, civil service pensioners are confronted with many challenges. These challenges often times hinder smooth pension ... range from embezzlement of pension funds, delay of government to pay pensioners,.

Poverty is the major reason. Most of those governor's are very poor financially and ideologically. They are not productive most of them depends on sharing formula. It takes the grace of God to get a good governor who will on his own through his effort alone will be able to pay pensioners.

If we are to be very honest, Nigeria is a very poor country at least for the number of population we have and is growing. Whenever allocation comes and goverent subtracts Monet for projects and salaries, the money remaining is just a little and I think that is why many pensioner go for months sometimes unpaid.
Nigeria is not in any way a poor country, all we have is bad governance whom doesn't care about the welfare of it's citizens. Nigeria is a very rich country that is extremely blessed with natural resources, it's just so unfortunate that it is totally cursed with bad governance. It's really so pathetic

Simple, corruption is the main reason why some persons who ought to be paid their pension would not be paid under the umbrella of selfishness because the money that is not been paid goes into someone else's pocket.

We are always being inaudaunted by news on on TV that our government are finding it difficult to pay pensioners so with this issue on ground now, how can we avoid this kind of embarrassment that is being meted out to our old citizens ? Let's proffer solutions guys.
The only solution to this bad situation faced by pensioners in Nigeria can only be addressed by voting the right people into power.

It claims that the advent of neoliberal economic policies created a vacuum in policy development and implementation, leaving older people unprotected under the neoliberal state's social safety nets. Interviews and narratives of interviews with government officials form the basis of this exploratory, qualitative review.

Pensions have sparked widespread interest in recent years, both in developed and developing countries, as a means of social security against old-age poverty and other uncertainties. Economists are concerned about pension programmes, especially those that are funded and managed by the government.

You're right. The delay of retirees pension comes through corrupted political bodies. They withheld the money to service their own pockets first, forgetting those retirees needs money to survive too. We just hope our country improves for better, and our politicians stop deceiving themselves.

Honestly, let's just hope that we see a dramatic change in the political system of the country and not just the country but the world before things can be moderate.

Other developed countries system is by far better than ours. If we can at least learn from their steps, i believe we'll step forward from our rough patch at the moment in Nigeria.

It is not only the pensioners that the government fails to pay. Most states in Nigeria are guilty of not paying their workers as at when due. Their lack of paying pensioners is due to irresponsible leaders that Nigeria parades in all sector of the economy. Corruption is another menace that is affecting their lack of prompt payments.

it is due to misappropriation of funds. These states have more than what it takes but through wickedness and embezzlement, they wouldn't pay the money.

Nigeria is a rich country and have enough money to pay workers their pension, I see this issue as a form of corruption in Nigeria and I suggest the government should do something about it.

we are being honest with ourselves we would all agree that Nigeria leaders are corrupt and selfish..... Bad governance is the reason why the country is messed up and the pensioneers are not paid..... We have enough resources to go round in this country but they are squandered and mishandled by those in Power... leaving the poor masses to survive on little or nothing
agree with your comment because of corruption that is why it is very difficult for them to pay attention workers in the country, they diverse the money the money and use it for The selfish reason

I feel it is a heartless thing to do in owing pensioners their pensions. The state and Federal government will come up with flimsy excuse to why this pensioners are not been paid but they go about making sure that their own office allowances and salaries are never haullted for any reason.

Most states of the federation including the federal government find it hard to pay this pensioners their pensions because the allocation for the pension meant to pay these pensioners are being embessled by the government officials themselves. Very wicked act indeed.

the Federal Government and some State in Nigeria believe that paying pension sometimes affect the economies of the country, this is why they find it very hard to pay pension sometimes
