You may be right, in the case of marketing a property, but in the case of rentals, I don't think they live in it to get clients. At least in my country it doesn't work that way. Although it is a very good point that you describe.The reason for that is because maybe the location you are living is not an estate and as a result of this you may not be able to see an estate agent ,most of the estate agents are living in the estate themself for better marketing.
