There are many people who might have had abandoned their website long ago. I think that as long as your website is not deleted and if it is still on the server, then it could be recovered. So, what really happens when you abandon your blog or website?

A lot of bad things might happen if you leave your website unattended. Viewers might venture somewhere else as a result of their frustration with the lack of responsiveness, for starters. Also, search engine rankings could drop, making it harder for users to find and go to your website.

When a website is abandon it becomes inactive and this can make you lose the code to access the account in the future. A website don't die but a code makes website resurrect when it is closed for a while.

You can recover a site after you abandoned it. You just need to renew the domain subscription. After that, you try and get access to the files of the site and start the process of recovering your site.

When you abandon your website, your website will be up until the domain and hosting renewal due date. Once your domain and hosting expire, your website will be down. When people buy your expired domain, you can never get back your domain.

Well, I think that this is one of the main reasons why many website cease to exist. There were many websites from the mid 2000s and they now no longer exist because they were probably abandoned by their owners.
