Incidentally I just signed up with a supermarket today for their rewards card and in the application form there is a line for the mobile number. Why not landline? For sure they will be sending txt messages for their promo or advertisements. That is why I never give my mobile number.

Nowadays I think SMS marketing is probably not as much of an effective marketing strategy as it once maybe was. Due to the amount of spam and scam messages that go around these days I don't think people will be as susceptible in buying by being sent a text message to market a product or service. I think a much better way would be through social media advertising as opposed to messaging people directly. Especially as phone numbers tend to quite sensitive information and people are cautious of leaks / spreading that information out.
