The first and most important guideline for online protection is to keep secrets to yourself. People should really be allowed to keep their personally identifiable information confidential by nature. It’s like handing over the keys to your house if you gave away your name, address, or phone number. Never let away your secret, since anyone who knows it will also use it to get other personal information.

Getting together & meeting others
Online communities and message boards are fantastic ways to learn new ideas and make some friends, but the choices you make there can be frightening. Someone who looks friendly online can be quite the contrary in person. As a result, meeting in real life is not a good idea. Strangers can never be introduced to children with their parents’ consent and while they are present.

Don’t Accept
If you don’t open them or allow them into your machine in the first place, the majority of viruses and files would have no impact. Acknowledging or accessing documents or e-mails by individuals you haven’t met or who you don’t trust can land you in hot water. They could be infected with viruses or contain offensive messages that you don’t want to hear. Consequently, don’t open or acknowledge any files or e-mails that you haven’t asked for.

Well said. Online safety and content moderation is really becoming a problem nowadays. Especially with the increasing number of content delivery channels. In the past, it was easy to manage the media platforms because they were just a handful. But today, the sources of information and content online have increased. It is become hard to control each and every one of them. It now boils down to individual initiative.

One thing I’ve never done is give out my last name on any site. It’s always either Melanie M or Melanie Marie.
Because I’ve always said this: Once you have a last name, you have everything. And it’s true.
A last name + Google = a person’s location, (possible) phone number, relatives, email addresses (BONUS) because from there you can find out which other sites they’ve been on or visited frequently.
Lose the @gmail.com or yahoo.com and you’d be surprised how many people repeatedly use only the beginning part as usernames for other sites. Sites they would never want you or anyone else to ever know about, yet I always manage to find.
And it all starts with a last name.

This information is really going to be helpful especially now that kids have gigantic phones at early stage

 

You have really said it all,the online world has brought tremendious benefits to persons aroud the globe,e-commerce and various busineses as well as conections.But there are some side effects that that if you are not cautious you would fall pray to bad sets of persons online.It is good to bev very carefull while dealing with people online.

 

One of the biggest problems I see while using internet is related to privacy. Not just kids and teenagers, but even the adults share their personal information on the internet which makes them prone to being scammed. With the rise with social platforms like TikTok and Instagram, kids and teens are sharing a lot of personal stuff online, which has made then easy target of scammers.

 

Do not use Chinese apps. I hear that chinese apps are being used to spy on people. If you don't believe me try checking terms and conditions and permission you give to the apps

What a very wonderful information about staying safe online. What I do to be secure in online is through my password. I have email verification. I also have phone verification. I also use Google authenticator in some of my website.

in this times we currently find ourselves, one would need to take various precatory measures to guard oneself and there love ones especially kids and those that are vulnerable, these for me is as a result to access to a lot of things online.

 

These are good advice for anyone who wishes to listen. In addition, people should not media to update people about their personal life. If some people have accident, they will post it. Some have also make it a habit of reporting their movement on social media.

 

I think we should advise children and teenagers not to give their personal information to people online, if possible their real name, pictures, phone numbers and address should not be seen online.
