This is one of the hardest things to do, even in the real world where people get paid money, managers find it hard to motivate them. So for example how do you motivate your package staff r your mods to post more. I did a cash prize competition once and I was a little bit disappointed with the outcome, it was very low output.
 
I normally pay some money from ads revenue and they knows if I make more money, they will get better share of profit. As it is always hard to retain them so best thing is only make members who are interested in content so they normally sticks without expecting a money.
 
Motivating staff is very good especially when they feel depressed about some issues . Motivation breeds zealousness and effectiveness when your staff is effective then your company is effective.
 
let them always believe that they are all owners of that specific thing, and each of their efforts will matter and be seen in the results, never show them that there is a difference between their ranks and they are all the same
 
You can motivate your staff by giving them good renumeration and incentives that will make them to perform their duties more diligently as everyone will do more when they are getting more from where they work.
 
Picking those hardworking staffs and offering them some incentive adding to their normal salary in your business or company makes them more valuable in the workplace and work better to make the CEO happier.
 
You could try sending them motivational message once in awhile. And also give them bonus or instead of doing a competition, you could take them out to a team dinner, pay the bill get to know your workers better.

Well said , all these are good for an offline business but what about an online business like a forum, it would be hard to take the users on a dinner yeah but giving out bonus definitely would help

This is true,once there is a descripancies in the way you see them while they perform their duties,they would'nt put in their best.They have to feel a sence of belonging while on the job and make have that ownership mentality in the organisation.

You are right, many people feel money is the only way to motivate your staff but what some might be after is that recognition from their superior that they are putting in alot of effort.

You are correct, some bosses cannot open their mouth to say a simple"thank you". Anyway to some people, it's not so simple. I hope some bosses can learn to appreciate their staff.

Yes, something as little as giving a bonus would surely help and would go a long way in an online setting. Or you could give them a break, just a day off with a note of how much you appreciate their efforts. That they are free that day to spend time with their family in the offline world. The next day they can come back to their job
 
Motivating staff is sure one of the hardest things to do as it's not entirely possible to meet the demands of a person, but one can try at least to make sure the business goes on hitch free.
 
It is very good to motivate your staff to do more and you do so by giving out gifts as giveaways or you can increase the salary of your staff in appreciation of the work they do for you.
 
They must first have a feeling that they own it. And they must be self motivated. Motivating demotivated people can be useless sometimes and also depend whether the motivator is good or not.
 
It is very important to always motivate the staffs in order to improve the productivity. Most business owners don't know about this, they believe that once they pay salary, nothing else. They don't know that workers happiness plays a major in company growth.

You are quit right though there are so many ways you can motivate your workers its not just about money. My sister once worked in a school whereby the boss does not know how to encourage or even appreciate them, the worse part is the fact that he delays payment.
 
I think the best way to motivate staff still remains cash gift. If a company or organization can include extra package like cash gift to workers, it will definitely increase their productivity and help the company in return to make money
