Loneliness: A Huge Problem Of The Modern Times
We are human beings, and we are social creatures. This is because humanity has been interacting with other people in various ways. Human beings need to interact with each other to survive. However, it seems like surviving is not the only thing we may need to do when it comes to being social. However, there are many things that we may need to consider to understand loneliness.
Loneliness Could Be A Big Problem
Loneliness is a real problem and is considered a much bigger issue than obesity. However, obesity and loneliness could be equally responsible for a decline in human health. This is what a paper published in the American Psychological Association has proved. The same study also states that increasing social interactions could significantly reduce your chances of suffering from diseases and dying by half!
Loneliness could cause long-term health issues and lead to diseases such as cardiometabolic diseases, according to a study published in a paper found in the American Heart Association journal. The study shows that loneliness could increase the chances of getting a stroke or suffering from heart issues by up to a whopping 30 percent! This suggests that many serious issues related to the problem of loneliness need to be addressed.
Younger People Are Also Suffering From Loneliness
There is a misconception that most people who suffer from loneliness are older. However, a recent survey conducted by psychologists at Boston University has indicated that even younger adults and college students also suffer from loneliness, which is also increasing. The fact is that there could be many reasons why younger people may be feeling so lonely. Many people tend to use social media rather than interact with people honestly. Social media could make a person feel more lonely and depressed, according to research published in a journal called Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology. Interacting with other people in real life is not like interacting with people on social media. Sometimes I think social media is an "artificial way" of interacting with people.
What Could Be Done To Stop The Problem Of Loneliness?
Since loneliness is a significant issue, it is much better to find a solution to this problem. The fact of the matter is that there are many things you could do. If you live in a western country, I am sure there are many programs that many organizations might have created for lonely individuals. You could join a gym or attend some classes. Interact with other people in such kinds of places. Join some sports clubs and interact with others. A paper published in the journal known as Leisure Sciences has shown that getting involved in such kind of leisure activities could reduce loneliness to some extent. Interact with your family, make new friends, visit relatives, etc. In the end, you could also talk to a psychologist about your problems.
