It is over a year now with over 112 million cases of COVID reported globally with 2.47Million deaths. Fortunately, the have been over 63 million people who have recovered from the virus; this is a good signal. Coupled with the ongoing vaccination drive, things seem to be looking up.

But how have the pandemic and the lockdown measures affected people’s mental health? This is the big question that most governments fail to ask. There has been a huge increase in stress and depressions during this period. Most of which is caused by the fact that hundreds of thousands of people either lost their jobs or got pay cuts. Such drastic and abrupt changes in incomes have affected a huge number of people mentally.

Additionally, some people have also been affected by virtue of being dependents on those who lost their jobs. I have personally been a victim of job cuts, and I would say for a moment before I got something to do online, I was falling into depression. The sheer lack of money and ability to cater to your family needs can really plunge you into depression and eventually affecting your mental health.

All over the world, in the past year, there have been increased cases of divorce, suicide, early marriages, and unwanted pregnancies. All these are a result of the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 lockdown measures and resultant economic recessions that have impacted negatively on mental health.

Those who are worse hit are those who already had some kind of mental illness and those who were abusing substances. It was reported that 40% of Americans reported symptoms of anxiety and depression. This is up from the 10% that was reported in 2019.

The effect of the pandemic on mental health differs from one demographic group to the other. For example:

How Lockdowns are Affecting Peoples Mental HealthKids have had a number of negative pandemic-related issues like the closure of schools, and declining incomes which have led to poor mental health. During the pandemic, youths from the age of 18 – 24 reported greater than average symptoms of anxiety and depression. Over 56 percent of youth around the world are more likely to engage in drugs and suicidal thoughts. The youth are already vulnerable to mental health problems, the lockdown has just accelerated the cases.
Evidence from previous economic downturns has shown that job losses and salary cuts have led to increased anxiety, depression, distress, and low self-esteem. During the pandemic, adults have recorded higher rates of symptoms of mental illnesses in households with the case of job cuts or reduced income.
Further research during the lockdown period showed that children and their parents, especially the mothers with poor mental health are on the increase. This is brought about by the issues related to school closures and lack of proper child care. Women with children are more likely to be affected by mental health-related problems than men. Mothers have been experiencing depressing conditions, higher anxiety compared to their men counterparts.
Workers who provide essential services such as medical staff, grocery vendors, mail and package delivery workers have reported a higher rate of poor mental health. This is because they expose themselves every day to conditions that can cause them to catch the virus. This will eventually increase anxiety and depression and thus poor mental health.
It is high time that governments all over the world should consider prioritizing the treatment and management of mental health cases before they become a pandemic on their own. Proper measures should be taken to guard the population against deteriorating mental health even as the government is grappling with the vaccination plans.

This is very serious and then a kind of set back in the government policies and effort for the protections of it citizens against the pandemic infection even though it depends on how individuals feel about the lockdown made by the government.

The lockdown has affected a lot of peoples mental health due to their loved ones who might have contracted the virus. Fear of contracting the virus and reducing the chances of making more profits and. A lot more reasons for a mental health situation.

The lockdown measure for the covid epidemic has cost many their mental health, such that mental problems may soon become a pandemic!
Sitting all day at home can dry up one's motivation and increase the risk of depression due to so many factors.

The pandemic coupled with the lock down has a lot of impact on a lot of persons. Some persons who has not experience hoew it feels to loss a job or stay with a means of livelihood coupled with other respnsibilty really had it real hard to cope, and this issue can really affect their mental health.

Mental healthcare should become very important in the society we have found ourselves now. Gone are the days when people turn blind eye to those in pain, now, everyone needs all the mental and emotional support they can get. To be frank, the lockdown did contribute hugely to so many people's mental unwellness.

Many children and young people have likely experienced loneliness during lockdown and in particular, been affected by lack of physical contact with their friends, families and peers, and the boredom and frustration associated with a loss of all the activities they have been used to taking part in. Moreover, many children and young people have experienced worries and distress about their education and returning to school. It therefore seems important to facilitate support for children and young people that allows them to talk through some of these shared experiences and in turn, validating their experience on this grippe economy

that's very bad, covid 19 has brought many worst things to many people , despite the fact the lookdown was no that serious in my area but allot of things happened which are not meant to be

Lock down Can cause depression, loneliness, tiredness and also affect the mental health of anyone, because when you are not allowed to go out, you become lonely and tired of your environmental .

I know some people who lost they are main occupation in job during the pandemic outbreak. And they are used to remain the same since that time. This situation has affected their psychology seriously and they usually see themselves and retarded person who can contribute something to the family.

It is very shocking that people have seen a dangerous moment practically (though it is still somewhat running somewhere). Lockdowns have seriously affected the life of the people in various sectors. I myself saw people starving here and there. The Government of my home country was trying to help the helpless but was unable to adjust to the situation. After making the vaccine, a sigh of great relief has come to the mind of the people.

The lockdowns has effect lot of people in various aspects. Both academically, socially, mentally and lots more but we thank God everything as become normal.

It is true that the lockdown has affected many people through depression for example, Even if you want to go to the market and buy something, the market will be closed, how will you not be depressed? You can't even visit your friends so you get tired of your environment.

There are some enterpreneur who are affected negatively when the government impose lockdown as a result of pandemic outbreak. Some people enter recession since they were unable to go about their daily activities to make money.

This covid 19 lockdown really had a negative effect on the mental health of everyone. Everyone was affected in one way or the other by the pandemic. Some lost their jobs and others lost a loved one.

The Corona virus affected everyone , but I don't really know much about the mental health of an individual but a lot of people were just bored that's why most people got used to social media to keep themselves comfortable.

A lot of people who are not used to staying indoors really felt so bad during the pandemic season, because it affected their well-being and social and social logical life too.

Nobody has ever get used to staying indoors, except the lazy people and everyone have to stay indoors during the pandemic , there is nothing you could have done. A lot of people did not even feel it since they have access to internet connection and social media.

It is very normal for people to experience psychological issue when you cannot move freely to wherever you want to go or when your movement is regimented. It will definitely have a negative effects.

The lockdown has had a very adverse effect on people's mental health because many people streams of income especially offline jobs have been disrupted and this admin people result into thinking and engaging their mind on necessary on how to meet their needs and send for their love news and these intern makes them stressed out.

The pandemic has affected the life of people so badly because during pandemic business was not moving as plan, lockdown has also helped many people in searching so many online work.
