You can determine whether the keyword is competitive or not based on the number of hits it get. If you are not satisfied with ubersuggest you can try semrush., semrush is a paid service but offers a lot of free tools.

Therefore, when I want to write on any topic, I will do some research to see whether people are interested to read on the topic or not, if there is general interest on the topic, I will check if there are content on the topic. If I see the dearth of the content, I write on that topic
