Has a site rebrand helped you recover?

If you ever had a site that was failing, have you ever decided to rebrand to maybe help push it into a mode of recovery? I feel sometimes a rebrand is ideal to get ahead of problems. But then again, rebranding could bring on new problems.

But lets say your site has a poor reputation, the name has been dragged through the mud, would a site rebrand help change that? I think it can help, but there will be people who still know about the old site too, so you'd have to keep that in mind.

I have rebranded multiple sites and rebranding has helped. I once had a blog that was having a hard time approval from adsense, I converted it into a forum and it was approved by adsense. I was running a blog with no traffic,. I added forum section and it helped to get traffic.
