I think it depends on the topic of the post if it's going to add value to have an image. Sometimes it helps to explain things with graphs, charts or even good memes. Other times people just might look at the image and then not even read the post?

I hadn't thought about that but I suppose it depends on the type of site you are posting on. It's quite important to post pictures on MyLot if you want to get noticed. Most people usually comment on them. I learned from experience that I would do better there if I added a picture but I guess if a post is for information only it's not as important, for example something you would write on ForumPromotion.

Concerning if I think a picture makes a more post interesting. Well, I think it sure does, it add more to what you talking about it and also add attractions to the post too. It depends on the targeted audience and the topic. Personally, I don't really like reading articles filled with pictures. The reason is that I will be easily carried away with the pictures and find myself glaring more on the pictures rather than reading the articles.
