Why do some stocks pay dividends while others do not?

AS far as I know, all stocks pay dividends, the only difference is the frequency or dividends payout and type of payouts. Some companies pay quarterly, whereas some companies yearly.
Well, I think that the profits that companies have divide them among the shareholders and are paid every certain period of time, it is really money from the profits of the company.
